Spear-wielding rebels have threatened to execute a New Zealand pilot they have taken hostage in the remote Papua region of Indonesia if the Indonesian military attempts to rescue him.
Phillip Mehrtens, a pilot for Indonesian aviation company Susu Air, was kidnapped last week by the separatist rebels, who stormed his single-engine plane shortly after it landed on a small runway.
