Council struggling to cover costs of road repairs due to Russian invasion

The council says the increase in cost of pothole repair material due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine means less road improvements will be carried out.

The inflation of prices for bitumen, the material used to repair roads across the UK, is mostly due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The majority – around 60 per cent – of the bitumen that is important to Britain comes from Russia.
