Each year, 26.2 million tonnes of cotton is produced for the textile and apparel industries, according to sustainable fibre and materials non-profit Textile Exchange. In total, the fashion industry contributes approximately 4 percent of total global emissions, as estimated by the Global Fashion Agenda and McKinsey & Company.
