Gaza death toll passes 25,000 as Israel rejects calls for withdrawal

Israeli attacks have raged across the Gaza Strip as Palestinian health officials say the death toll from Israeli strikes since war broke out in October has passed 25,000, most of them women and children.

Gaza’s health ministry on Sunday said 178 Palestinians had been killed in the past 24 hours, one of the deadliest days of the war. Israel’s military said a soldier was killed in fighting.
